The front face — the Charge side — presents a breathtaking full-field battle scene in deep photorealistic relief. About the Design
The Knights Templar — formally the Poor Fellow-Soldiers of Christ and of the Temple of Solomon — were founded in Jerusalem in 1119 AD following the First Crusade, and grew to become the most feared, most celebrated, and most mysterious military order in the history of medieval Europe. For nearly two centuries they were the elite shock troops of the Crusades — heavily armoured, disciplined beyond any other fighting force of their era, sworn to poverty, chastity, and obedience, and completely unafraid of death in battle because they believed they died in the service of God. The white mantle with the red cross was their emblem and battle standard — instantly recognisable on any field of war from the Holy Land to the Iberian Peninsula. The heraldic lion rampant on the reverse shield is one of the oldest and most enduring symbols in European heraldry — used by the royal houses of England, Scotland, Norway, and the Holy Roman Empire as the supreme emblem of royal courage and sovereign power. The motto "Pro Deo Et Gloria" — For God and Glory — encapsulates the dual purpose that drove the medieval knight: sacred duty and the pursuit of honour that would outlast a mortal life. The crossed swords represent the oath of the knight — the blade sworn to the service of a higher cause.
