This American Revolution commemorative coin captures one of the most defining moments in the history of the United States. The reverse features a stunning full-colour scene of George Washington crossing the Delaware River on the night of December 25th, 1776 — the daring surprise attack that turned the tide of the Revolutionary War. Washington stands at the bow of the boat, arm outstretched, the Stars and Stripes raised behind him, his soldiers rowing through the icy waters toward Trenton. The inscription reads The American Revolution — 1776–2026 — 250th Anniversary. The front bears the Great Seal of the United States in deep antique silver relief: a bald eagle with wings spread, clutching an olive branch and arrows, the Stars and Stripes shield at its chest, laurel branches framing both sides, and the motto E Pluribus Unum arching above beneath a starburst of thirteen stars.
This piece is an American Revolution 250th anniversary collectible coin designed for display, gifting, and collection. It marks the Semiquincentennial of American independence with one of the most iconic images in American history.
About the Design
Washington's crossing of the Delaware on Christmas night 1776 is one of the most celebrated moments of the American Revolutionary War. Facing a collapsing Continental Army and a string of defeats, Washington led 2,400 soldiers across the icy Delaware River in a surprise attack on Hessian forces at Trenton, New Jersey — a victory that revived the revolution and changed the course of history. The scene was immortalised in Emanuel Leutze's famous 1851 painting, which remains one of the most recognised images in American art. The front of this coin bears the Great Seal of the United States, adopted in 1782, with the bald eagle as the national symbol and E Pluribus Unum — Out of Many, One — as the national motto.
