About the Design

Anubis was one of ancient Egypt's most important deities, serving as the god of mummification, embalming, and the afterlife. In the weighing of the heart ceremony, Anubis would place the deceased's heart on one side of the scales and the feather of Ma'at (representing truth and justice) on the other. If the heart was lighter than the feather, the soul could pass into the afterlife; if heavier with sin, it would be devoured. The Great Sphinx of Giza, built around 2500 BCE during the reign of Pharaoh Khafre, combines a lion's body with a human head to symbolize strength and wisdom. For over 4,500 years, it has stood as guardian of the Giza pyramid complex.
