Operation Overlord was the largest seaborne invasion in history, involving over 156,000 Allied troops from the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, and other nations landing across five Normandy beaches — Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno, and Sword. The D-Day landings marked the beginning of the liberation of Western Europe from Nazi occupation and are widely regarded as the turning point of World War II in the Western theatre.
